i was trying to add 'last posts from blog' by adding a widget to the wpforo sidebar.

I have no clue, this is not wpForo issue, this widget code is out-side of wpForo. It may have some dependence on pages or on sidebars. The regular recent post widget works fine on all our test sites.

Can you recommend a simple compatible theme that is clean, simple, only 4-6 basic colors, some control over header&footer?

How about offering your basic theme for free to your loyal users? it will eliminate many support issues. In addition, there will be 1000's of users with the same look&feel like other forums.

Just to clarify - you have themes but 'inside the frame' and they rely on the main theme that is common to pages, blogs and wpForo forum.

We use a paid premium theme for WordPress and wpForo classic theme. We only got one site license for the WordPress theme and can't offer it to others.
