All is correct. The RSS links are not for showing unread topics and posts. RSS links are for RSS reader bots and they display XML content. The "Unread Posts" link has no relation to RSS links they are separate links and they are working in different ways. 

In other words all works fine and work as designed. You don't need to use the RSS links, they are not for users. They exist only for RSS fead readers and bots. They contains recent topics and posts, they don't show unread posts.

Can you please check why this is happening?
 
 
Pls note - the "Unread Posts" link in the RSS feed is working fine i.e. when I click there only the Unread Posts open up.
