@chris are Okay, I understand.

So, to accomplish what I want, I can use a single category and organize under that category as Forums and subforums.

I am trying that now, and it seems to work; I would prefer to organize with categories of discussion styles. The advantage here is I could use different formats, like Q&A for one type (category) and Threaded for others.

As to whether it is NEEDED is not relevant. I don't NEED to use your forum, I choose to use it because it offers features I desire, but you do have a lot of competition...

Consider it a suggestion for now, then. Thank you.

I want to allow my users to subscribe to selective Categories, not others. By subscribing, I mean not everyone is interested in all of them. I would like them to go to their profile and see a list of categories and enable or disable individual categories. The purpose would be to simplify their forum experience by reducing the displayed number of categories. My forum targets seniors that are not very tech literate, and for someone 80, having lots of unnecessary information can add to the confusion.

A simple example, I have a category where people can discuss/debate/argue about politics. Some people do not even want to know this category exists; they find it disturbing. While others find jokes (another category) to be boring.

Is this possible, and if not, could you consider it an option for the user profile?
