The problem is that with your idea you can only filter the individual forums, but not the categories of a boardid...

Use the Recent Post widget 3 times.
Activate the "Filter by Forum" and select the forums of one of the categories for each widget.

Each category represents a user segment. On our homepage we have implemented wpForo RecentPosts as a widget for the boardid XY in the sidebar.

We now want each category to be individually labeled in the widget so that users can see which categories the forum posts come from (see attachment). Is this possible? Thanks!
