@Robert: your solution worked! I removed the code snippet from htdocs/wp-content/plugins/wpforo/wpf-themes/classic/colors.css

After this cleared my cache and the buttons were visible again!

I will have a look later tonight when I’m back home again

in case I’m not able to find the custom CSS code on the frontend, inwhich file(s) could it be written to?

I see you have a custom CSS code like this, please remove it. It's the reason of all your problems:

#wpforo #wpforo-wrap * {
     font-family: "Special Elite" !important;
}

It's either in website custom CSS places or in the Forums > Settings > Styles > Custom CSS Code textarea. Remove it, delete all caches.

And please note, that wpForo inherits the font from your theme, don't set it custom font-family, just use a WordPress theme with a font-family you prefer.

Please disable the debug mode of wpForo. Then register a regular user and provide the login pass here.

this is a screenshot of the issue after disabling:

- Activating another theme (twenty nineteen)
- Reinstalling wpforo
- Disabling *ALL* plugins, except wpforo and font awesome

editor buttons/icons not showing

Dear all,

My editor is missing buttons/icons and is showing squares instead.
I disabled *ALL* plugins, except font-awesome and wpforo, but the issue remains.
Also tried another theme, but I have the same issue there as well.

I checked my profile and visual editor is enabled.
I also checked the wpforo "Topics & Posts" settings and visual editor is enabled.

What can I do here to get the editor to show its buttons/icons?
