The daily reported errors are in relation to Missing field 'url' (in 'author').  (As a result of this I have now disabled ability for users to self delete).

All the threads reported by Google are for this user who's posts now appear on the forum as "Anonymous 1405". I thought no problem, I will just delete that account and have all the posts deleted in the process.

That was a big fat NO go!

Why?

Because the "Anonymous 1405 account does not appear in the WordPress user list, nor does it appear in the WPForo members list when viewed from the backend control panel. This appears at least to me, to be a fundamental flaw, as admin I have absolutely no way or removing this user account as it does not exist!

My only option would appear to be to manually delete over 1000+ posts via the forum, leaving the phantom account with zero posts, what a nightmare task that will be.

Nothing will kill your forum. On every update Wordpress deactivates your forum, then deletes it, then installs the new version. So do the same as update. Deactivate > Delete > Search > Install again. Then delete all caches.
