Can we expect to also see an improved version of the Forum read system? ie: having to read the post of a forum to mark a forum as read, not just going inside it once. I would assume that once the read status of a post is stored in the database, it is not highly complex to validate that the forum itself has or not an unread post?

As a temporary solution I can suggest disable this in Dashboard > Forums > Settings > Features Tab, by setting NO the "Log Viewed Forums and Topics" option. We'll improve this feature as soon as possible.

Read/Unread doesn't carry across platforms. So when I'm on my phone or tablet, it shows differently to on my PC. Topics are unread that I have read on my PC. I'm guessing this is because read/unread is somehow stored in a browser cookie or something, rather than against the account. In fact I'm certain because even after logging out on my tablet it maintains the status of what was read/unread while I was logged in.

It is frustrating that it doesn't follow you across devices because these days most of us have more than one device. I have 3 in arms reach right now.

Yes, because it's browser cookie based feature. So it's based on your browser/device. There is no db storing version yet. It'll increase SQL number and memory usage. We'll add it once we got the most light way for this.

There is no unread button. But current 1.4.1 version comes with read/unread indication by bold forum/topic titles.
