The Go2wpForo migration tool is designed to migrate the standard forum components, including forums, topics, posts, and users. However, attachments added through third-party plugins may require an additional migration step.

If you've used the GD bbPress Attachments plugin, please follow these instructions to migrate the attachments:

1. Make sure you've already completed the migration using Go2wpForo. Then, check your database and ensure that the prefix_mg2wpforo table exists and is not empty. This table contains migration logs and is also used during attachment migration.

2. Back up your entire WordPress database before proceeding.

3. Download the bba2wpf.zip file, extract it, and upload bba2wpf.php to your WordPress website's root directory, where the wp-config.php file is located.

4. Open the script in your browser by visiting https://yourdomain.com/bba2wpf.php.

5. Once the migration is complete, delete bba2wpf.php from your server.

In most cases, this procedure migrates the attachments without requiring you to move or modify the files manually.

Please note that this additional procedure specifically applies to attachments managed by the GD bbPress Attachments plugin. We cannot guarantee that all avatars, attachments, and inline images from other plugins or custom implementations will be migrated automatically. We recommend testing the results on your staging site before migrating your live forum.

• Massive table bloat: This means your forum tables have accumulated a lot of unnecessary data or fragmentation over time. You'll want to run database optimization/repair operations. In phpMyAdmin or through your hosting control panel, look for options to optimize your wpForo tables. This should help reclaim space and improve query performance.
• Table-level locking during forum posts: When users post, the database is locking entire tables instead of just the specific rows being modified. This prevents other users from posting simultaneously. This is often related to the table bloat issue—optimizing should help. You might also want to check if your database is using the right storage engine (InnoDB is generally better than MyISAM for concurrent access).
• Connection pool exhaustion: Your hosting account only has a limited number of database connections available. When posting takes a long time, connections stay open longer, and you run out of available connections for new requests. This is why you're seeing timeouts. Your hosting company may need to increase your connection limit, or you may need to optimize how wpForo manages database connections.

I'd recommend starting with database optimization first, as that often resolves multiple issues at once. After that, reach out to your hosting support and specifically ask them to: (1) increase your database connection pool limit, and (2) verify you're using InnoDB storage engine for your wpForo tables. Have you already tried running a database optimization/repair, or would you like guidance on how to do that through your hosting control panel?

By default, wpForo reserves specific IDs for its default usergroups. The Guest usergroup ID is always 4 and cannot be changed through the admin dashboard.

There may be an inconsistency in your database. However, before making any changes, please make a full database backup to avoid potential data loss.

Please access your database through cPanel and check the usergroup records. If any corrections are needed, we recommend proceeding carefully to avoid affecting existing users or their permissions.

When trying to post a thread/post on our forums, it takes a long time (and sometimes times out). We sometimes receive an error establishing a database enquiry and our site crashes.

Our hosting company say it is due to the following:

1. Massive table bloat 2. Table-level locking during forum posts 3. Connection pool exhaustion
 

I don't fully understand this but wondered if there might be an answer to this as it means the forum has just become very slow (almost 5 minutes to open a post/thread).

I'm trying out wpforo and want to migrate my bbpress forum on my staging site to see how it looks and performs. My bbpress forum is ten years old with a lot of entries, with buddypress integration. In the wpforo migration window in WP it is asking me for the path to my avatars and attachments folders, as though there are only two direct paths to these. In bbpress, avatars are put into a subfolder for each user. For example, my avatar is in /avatars/1/myavatar.jpg. The next person who signed up will be in /avatars/2/theiravatar.jpg, and so on. And then attachments are uploaded to a subdirectory based on the date, which is the same behaviour as uploading an image to a blog post. That is, /2026/10/30/image.jpg.

Is the migration tool intelligent enough to find the avatars and attachments if I just point avatars to /avatars/ and attachments to /uploads/? How can I be sure that the migration imports all necessary images, be they avatars, attachments or inline images?
