Love the new user mentioning feature in 1.4.3. But I'm having trouble with usernames that have dashes in them.

I use the Social Login plugin to allow people to register using Facebook, LinkedIn, and Google to register. It uses dashes to replace the spaces between names.
Is there any way to get this new user mentioning feature to work with usernames that have dashes in them?
