Hi there,

I have to place a number of forums on different pages of a client website, so I'm using the forum ID in the shortcode to do this.

All is well, but when I click on a sub-forum or a topic within these forums, these open in a new, automatically generated post instead of simply opening as drop downs on the main page that I have created for a specific forum using the shortcode.

I need everything to happen on the one page.

I have made two test forums, each on their own page,  in the menu on a staging site so you can see what I mean:

https://sharonbstage.wpengine.com/test/

Could you tell me how to make sub-forums and topics appear in nested format on this page - rather than them opening in an unstyled post?

Many thanks for your help

Faith Tilleray

@faitht,

Have you created another page with [wpforo] shortcode?

Yes, I created the page link I sent above  -  https://sharonbstage.wpengine.com/test/ - and also another forum (also in the menu on the site) here: https://sharonbstage.wpengine.com/test-2/.

The forums themselves are working fine on the created pages using the short codes with ID's  for each.

The problem comes if you click on a sub forum eg Welcome or a topic - these open in an automatically created post rather than simply opening up as a nested item on the original Forum page.

Please note: The forum base URL is one for all. All shortcodes are only designed to show to the first list, but paginations and links go to the main forum page with the main forum slug.

In other words, pages with custom shortcodes are not separate forums, they are just a list of current view but all content is linked to the main forum page and being opened under Base Forum URL/Slug.

Thanks for your reply.

Does that mean that it's not possible to have separate forums for each course, each of which open all their sub categories and topics on a single page?

I'm sorry but you can't have two different forum roots, the forum is one on the one WordPress. As I've already mentioned the shortcodes are only designed to list some content not to create separate forums. You should have two different WordPress installations in different subdomains with different wpForo forums.

As I've already mentioned the shortcodes are only designed to list some content not to create separate forums.

The use of specific forum id on a page should keep the matters (links and posting) inside that forum id. However, as read-only feature it is basically useless - a forum is made to write on it.

Thanks Sofy and UsernameMi,

In the end, what I've done is to divide the main single forum up into categories (called the names of the courses they are the forum for), then put the categories on the separate course pages with the ID shortcode. I then styled the main forum page to say simply 'Welcome to the Forum' and I removed the breadcrumb so that no- one can use it to get back to the HOME icon. This removes access to the main forum which would show all the categories (forums for other courses).

So now, I have my individual forums with their own subforums, and if someone clicks a sub-forum or topic they are taken to the main forum page which shows only the subforums/topics that they have access to. It looks like it could work, but not sure if I'm missing something?

I've attached an image of a course forum and then what they see if they click a sub-forum - they land on the 'main forum' page but don't realise it isn't simple the next layer of their own course forum.

Hope that makes sense! And if anyone can point out where this might fall down, I'd be very grateful to know before I go any further.

Faith
