Sending emails to confirm subscription will increase traffic on the host and for shared host for a low budget sites can be painful, reduced speed and performance. The confirmation process may also load the forum with unnecessary traffic.

1) You can turn off " subscription confirmation " from admin page.
Please navigate dashboard > Forum > setting > features

2) Basically it works, wpforo.com have such functionality. If you are logged in you can see so in our wpforo.com/community/ and you ca check on your current topic.
About point 1 I was referring to the user end not the forum admin
