‪Hi Support‬

‪There is a post in How to‬ and Troubleshooting ‪forum (I myself posted it) with the following title‬:

Strange display of "Threaded" layout in Safari. ‬

If I do a "normal" search (at the search icon in your forum's menu) for [layout in Safari], wpForo finds 397 pages (5900+) posts, which means: all posts that include one of these three words "layout" "in" "Safari" anywhere in the entire post. It seems like a search with the OR operator [layout OR in OR Safari]. Results do include my post.

But if I search for the exact three words ["layout in Safari"], wpForo finds nothing!!

How can I search for an exact expression like layout in Safari (NOT "any of the three words") just like you would search in Google or Bing for the exact words in a phrase?

Or at least an AND operator search [layout AND in AND Safari], if not in that precise order?

Hi @jorgew,

Yes, we'll improve the wpForo search system.

wpForo search system allows to filter information by date period, search in the specific forum, etc. Please check out those types.

Hi @sofy,

wpForo search system allows to filter information by date period, search in the specific forum, etc. Please check out those types.

Yes, of course I checked them out and "that" search will bring out results, but only if the searched words are part of the topic's title, which I understand is part of the "Entire Posts".

What I would need for my forums users is a search tool that works more or less the way that Google or Bing do. This means:

1.- When I search for (the terms): [we'll improve the wpForo search system] I will be shown those result posts that include "ALL of the terms, in ANY order" first, followed by whatever wpForo wants to show me.

2.- When I search for (the phrase): ["we'll improve the wpForo search system"] (the same terms but now within quotation marks) I will be shown ONLY those result posts that include "ALL of the terms, in THAT EXACT order", and if there are no results, please just tell me so. And then show me whatever wpForo wants to.

This is what I would like to offer to my forum's users.

In the meantime, while you improve the search system, please tell if the following assumptions are correct:

When I currently (Vers. 1.6.1) perform a standard/normal/default/initial search…

A.- The Search Phrase  isn't really a phrase but "search for ALL OR ANY of these terms". e.g. search for [we'll improve the wpForo search system]  (results: 760 pages)

Screen shot 2019 04 10 at 1.10.12 PM

A.1.- The list of results of the above search will display posts in a descending order of relevance, showing those which include the "ALL of these terms" on top, followed by the "ANY of these terms".

Screen shot 2019 04 10 at 1.13.32 PM

B.- If I search for posts that include "ALL of the terms, in THAT EXACT order", I will get NO results, even if there is at least one post that includes "ALL of the terms, in THAT EXACT order" in post's title or body (Entire Post). e.g. search for ["we'll improve the wpForo search system"]

Thanks for your attention to this issue.
