Hi,

Fisrt of all congratulation for this awesome plugin, it does a really great job.

However, I'm facing and issue or maybe confusion with the setting of spam control page.
I've searched for similar topics here, but most of them are closed or solved without really answering my question...

So, I wanted to use the combinaison of the two options, to force new users posts to be manually approved:

  • User is New (under hard spam control) during first [X] posts
  • Posts must be manually approved

So I set the first parameters to "3", and set the second to "yes".

The issue I'm facing is that although a new user has reached the 3 approved posts, the nex ones are still set unapproved.

From what I understood from the documentation, as soon as a new user reaches the X approved posts, then his next ones won't be set as unapproved...
Isn't it?

I thought maybe it was because I also had activated the "wpForo Spam Control", but even if I turn it off, I have the same issue...

Did I miss something here?

Thanks in advance for any help or idea.

Hi @benwebdev,

All your settings are correct. However, even if the user is not new and exceeds the minimum "approved post count," the spam control still checks for multiple similar posts by the same user, external links, or other suspicious content. It then marks those posts as unapproved and sends you an email notification stating that a new topic or post is awaiting your moderation.

Hello @blackraz ,

Thanks for your response, but as I said, even if I turn OFF the "wpForo Spam Control" option, the next post written by a user that exceeds the minimum "approved post count" will still be set as unapproved...

What is strange and now quite blocking is that if I turn OFF the "Posts must be manually approved" option too, next post written will still be set as unapproved (???)

The only thing that works is to turn ON the autorisation "can pass moderation" for the group.
But as the group is associated to subscriber role, I guess this makes spam control pointless for this user role isn't it?

Navigate to Dashboard > wpForo > Usergroups admin page. Edit the usergroup ( in your case it should be "Registered" ) and make sure the “Can pass moderation” permission is enabled.

@blackraz :
Thanks, but did you read my last answer? (I edited it so maybe you did not get the update before you wrote your answer...)

I understand that this option will force to bypass moderation, but in this case, any spam coming from a user with the "subscriber" role will not be catched to be moderated...
That's why I found great to be able to catch any new user post to be set as unapproved...

I don't know if it makes any sens, or perhaps I missunderstood the goal and possibilities of the spam protection setting page...

Let me explain how the option works.
If the "can pass moderation" is unchecked the new topics | posts are always created  as unapproved (it ignores all "Spam Protection" settings).
Once you check the "can pass moderation" checkbox the other spam options start to work as it sets in the "Spam Protection" settings page.

Ok, so much thanks for this answer. It clarifies the issues I got.
I will check this deeply as soon as possible.

By the way, is it explained that clearly in the documentation?
Because if not (my bad if it already is), I think this could be a great help to add this clarification in the documentation to clear up any ambiguity 👍
