Some initial content is created (from us and from the new members), I would like to open it up to the public via social media. What are your suggestions on seeding an initial community as well as providing buzz-worthy content that will spur lots of conversations?

you need to have lots of members to get lots of conversations. You didn't even mention what your topic is about.
