I seem to have an issue with the cat-title displaying properly on my page. I would like to remove it all together but not sure how. Went through all the settings and couldn't get it to not display.

This is a "Forum Page Title", isn't it? Please navigate to Dashboard > Forums > Settings > Ferure admin page and set "No" value for the "Show Forum Page Title" option.
