Seems that when all posts in subforums are read the main forum/category is not marked as "no new posts". See attached screenshot (yellow=unread posts, blue=no unread posts).

Please make sure you don't have cache plugins enabled for forum page.
Thanks, as far as I can see we don't cache anything at the moment (cache plugin is switched off and in the wpforo settings the cache options are also disabled). Also, for the other "unread post"-icons (of the subforums) it works fine when all items are read. it's just the top-level icon that is not updated.
Please don't disable wpForo Caches. Those don't cause any issue during the test. just leave your forum URL to allow us test it.
