Hello, first of all I like to thank the developers for a wonderful plugin.
On my site, using buddy press, all users use "Nickname" and the "Display name publicly as "Nickname".
My issue is on the Forum all members are showing as their real names. This includes in the footers of new user and the member list. Now I know the user can edit their names in the account settings. But, is there a way to set the Display Name/Nickname to show what is used on the buddy press account?
Basically I just want the user to display the same name throughout the site. This includes Buddy Press and WPforo.

wpForo uses DisplayName, BuddyPress should also use the DisplayName. I think the issue is Member Cache update when user changes name in BuddyPress settings. Please navigate to Dashboard > Forums > Dashboard admin page and click on Delete Member Cache button. If this helped we'll find some hook and delete user cache when BuddyPress profile is updated.

Thanks for getting back to me on my question about display names. I went ahead and followed your instructions. I deleted user cache, updated user statics, and deleted all cache. I also went a head a deleted cache with WP super cache.
Also, I doubled checked and the “Members URL structure” is set to “USER_NICKNAME”.
After I’ve done all the above I went back to check out my issue and nothing has changed.
Anything else I can do to get things working the way I need them to?
