We have a post which is waiting for moderation but it has been submitted by a member of the Guest usergroup which does not have the rights to create a topic. My understanding has always been that members of this usergroup should not be able to post so I was surprised to see the post in the moderation queue, have I misunderstood things?

This user has deleted his/her profile. That's why you see it as guest. He/she has registered, created topics and posts then deleted himself.
