Ok, thanks for the tip. I'll seek further assistance from the Theme's support if necessary.

Yes, it was the theme, Weaver Xtreme (which I highly recommend). It had applied a grey background color instead of the WP default white, and they provide a simple but somewhat hidden checkbox to un-do it.
