Recently someone spammed my forum to hell. I then changed the spam settings and made them stricter. For example I raised spam suspicion to 99 and "User is new" to 100 and posts must be manually approved. Despite this the bots were able to spam hundreds of times. First of all what should my security settings be to avoid this in the future. Am I missing something?

Secondly the bots were able to create topics/posts after a few seconds. Is there a way to limit the amount of posts/topics a user can make in a given time period? For example a setting that only allows users to post 3 times in a minute. If this feature is not available, then I would strongly suggest this to be added. I had to delete hundreds of spam topics. Not sure how good this is for SEO.
