Follow up,

On my test system I tried the official WordPress Theme and I still get the post number and not the short text.

I can not recall what theme I used before that seems to work, but I can see now that Zero Gravity (my production theme) works just like Twenty Ten.

So, would it be possible for the developers to check again the way wpForo interprets the data returned from the blog's widget (last posts and last replies) 

 I know that the official and the correct response will be again:

 this is not wpForo issue, this widget code is out-side of wpForo. It may have some dependence on pages or on sidebars. The regular recent post widget works fine on all our test sites.

But, by looking deeper you may find few other items like that, that may be overlooked and a simple correction can enhance user experience with wpForor.
