Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong please?

When I activate wpforo in wordpress – I have an existing site and want the forum within it – the forum pages completely replace my website even though I am not – as far as I know – setting it to do so.

1. Please make sure the forum page is not set as homepage in Dashboard > Settings > Reading admin page

2. Make sure the "Turn WordPress to wpForo" option is unchecked (disabled) in Dashboard > Forums > Settings admin page.

I didn't change the settings in Settings > Reading and the forum page was not set as homepage, my website Home page was.

I did turn on "Turn WordPress to wpforo" by mistake but then turned it off, deactivated the plugin and reactivated. Should I uninstall and reinstall?

This is the reason. You should turn it off, click on [update options] button, delete all caches in Dashboard > Forums > Dashboard admin page, then check on website front-end and make sure the home page is not replaced by wpForo. Then deactivate and activate it.

Ok thanks. Reinstalling and clearing the cache multiple times sorted it out..

One further question: I have set the Forum Accesses to Standard, Moderator & Admin, all of which have the "Can attach file"  and "Can view attached files" selected but only the Admin access can see the "Add attachment" option on forum posts & topics. Is there another setting somewhere that is affecting this?

Please never set Admin and Moderator as Standard Access in Forum Permission Settings. The admin should have Full Access, the Moderators should have Moderator Access. Standard access is a regular user access.

This is the correct settings on the Edit Forum screen:

...but only the Admin access can see the "Add attachment" option on forum posts & topics. Is there another setting somewhere that is affecting this?

This is not an access issue. This is wpForo Span Control issue. It doesn't allow new registered users to atatch files. There is an option to manage minimum number of posts user must have to be able attach file. This option can be set "0" in Dashboard > Forums > Tools > Antispam Tab
