I have read the FAQ about Forum permission but it differs so much from my previous experience I could do with a little help in my use case if possible.
In my case I want to restrict access to our Support Forum to only a subset of the membership. Anyone not in this Support subset can see the forum in the board listing, but cannot see any of the topics or discussions - in effect this is a locked forum.
Secondly I have installed the Messaging plugin and also want to restrict use of this to a subset of the membership.
If I can have some help it would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
Alistair
Hi,
For example, let’s say you have a forum called "Support Forum".
Edit this forum and scroll to the Forum Permissions section. Here, you can assign specific access levels to each usergroup. If you want to restrict access for the Registered usergroup, simply set their permission to "No Access".
You can create as many usergroups as needed and assign different access levels to each one. You may also create custom access types.
For instance, you can create a new access type named "Support Forum Access" and grant it only to the usergroups that should have permission to view or participate in that forum.
Secondly I have installed the Messaging plugin and also want to restrict use of this to a subset of the membership.
Regarding private messaging: if you are using the wpForo Private Messages addon, it includes the "Front – Can write PM" permission in the Forum Usergroups settings. Make sure this permission is configured correctly so only the appropriate usergroups can send private messages.
Perfect, thank you for explaining Sofy, that's great.
