What @cmw14 says. Forum filter on or off the the widget displays the link to groups who do not have access permission. If clicked the link does 404 for those that do not have permission. In /community/recent all access permissions are respected and links are not shown to those that do not have permission to view them.

Exactly, but over there the new-button doesn't work. So it's kind of a mess 😥
As a result of this I have had to block the private area from the recent posts widget for the past 18months or more, just to ensure posts don't get listed. This is annoying but I've learned to live with it.
That is what I did now, but not what I went for.
