Just coming back here to say that UM 2.0 is now mature and works without issues (in case anyone was put off by the original thread)

Yeah I gave up on all of them for awhile and focused on other things. I'll probably revisit UM at some point in the coming months, as well as BuddyPress after WP Tavern has some time to release some updates.
