Caching Types in WordPress and wpForo — and How to Clear Them

Frequently Asked Questions |
| |
Caching helps websites load faster, but it can also cause confusion when pages do not update. Here are The main types of cache you should know — explained simply and clearly:
1️⃣ Browser Cache
Your computer or phone saves little copies of websites so They load faster next time.
Sometimes this causes:
Old versions of your site to appear
Changes not showing
Styles looking “stuck”
Easy Fix:
Clear your browser cache so it shows The new version of your site.
2️⃣ Hosting Cache (Server-Level Cache)
Many hosting providers (such as SiteGround, Bluehost, Hostinger, WP Engine, etc.) use server-level caching to speed up websites automatically.
This caching happens outside of WordPress, so even if you clear your WordPress cache, The old version may still be stored on The server.
Hosting cache can cause:
Updates not appearing even after clearing WordPress cache
CSS or JavaScript changes not updating
Forums or dynamic pages loading outdated content
Logged-in pages behaving incorrectly
Easy Fix:Clear your hosting cache from:
Your hosting control panel (e.g., cPanel, Site Tools, hPanel, etc.)
A hosting plugin (e.g., SiteGround Optimizer, LiteSpeed Cache if provided by server)
If you're unsure, ask your hosting support: “Please clear The full server cache for my site.”
3️⃣ WordPress Cache
You should exclude The wpForo forum page from your cache plugin as described here:
WordPress or your hosting company may save old versions of pages to make things load quickly.
Sometimes this causes:
Menus not updating
Pages showing old content
Your Theme not showing changes
Easy Fix:
Use your “Clear Cache” or “Purge Cache” button in The WordPress admin bar or in your caching plugin.
4️⃣ wpForo Cache
wpForo has its own caching system for your forum.
Here’s how to access it:
Step 1: Click wpForo in The left WordPress menu
Step 2: You are now on The Overview page
Step 3: Scroll down until you see The big box called Forum Maintenance
Everything you need is right There — no extra menus, nothing hidden. inside The Maintenance box, you will see:
Delete All Caches → clears old forum data
Clean Up → removes junk The forum doesn’t need
Update Forums Statistic → fixes forum-wide numbers
Update Topics Statistic → fixes topic counts
Rebuild Phrases → refreshes The words wpForo uses
Delete Phrase Cache → removes old saved text
Rebuild Threads → fixes The order of messages These buttons help your forum show The correct, updated information.
Quick Summary
Cache Type

Migrate From Stand-Alone Forums |
| |
We've contacted to Profprojects, They said The migration was finished on time, The problem is uploading all migrated data to your server. The server doesn't allow Them to upload big database, so They asked you for FTP connection to try import database using other tools. So please make sure The server you use is good for The project you requested. They have finished work on Sunday as promised and They provided The migrated forum demo on Sunday too. After this They are not able to import all data to your server because of your server poor resources and limits. Please contact Them and provide all necessary data (FTP etc) to allow Them upload wpForo database and file attachments to your server |

Hi @dave
Here's some points to consider:
(1) Since January 2019, wpForo has had two updates.
(2) You can check The wpForo server Requirements below and compare it with your current Webhost to see if They have The minimum server requirements for wpForo to function as designed. (If your php version needs updating, usually a phone call to webhosts, They can upgrade your site quickly, possibly They can do this upgrading within one hour).
(3) If you replaced The new wpForo database tables (which currently, The latest version is wpForo Version 1.6.1) with The old tables from January 2019 (assuming wpForo Version 1.5.5 - as you wrote "to retain The old content"), There will be a mismatch on The database tables, as your above screenshot has shown.
Robert has explained it in THIS post, in response to The "How to Back Up Forum Data" . That post is helpful because it your issue is appearing like a "migration" from wpForo one server to another server.
This is how Robert explained how to correctly migrate The wpForo forum from one site to another, maybe you can try his tips below:
Good luck! |

I'm not sure if you meant I should do this on The live site or The staging site, but I did learn from WP Staging Pro plugin developers that The reason The tables weren't brought over from wpForo is because They have a different prefix than was expected by WP Staging Pro. I was able to do another push of The staging site to The live site by manually selecting The wpForo tables in The WP Staging Pro plugin for push changes. Also, I still had to go through all of The update/flush options in The wpForo overview and I did a hard flush of permalinks.
Finally, it seems to have brought over The structure. |

wpForo > Boards doesn't even have anything listed at all for The Board. (screenshot attached showing The Boards page of The live site and The staging site), however The staging site, which lives in The same database, does have a single board listed with boardid 0. The tables in The staging site have The prefix of wpstg2_, so that The tables for The working forum in The staging site begin with wpstg2_wpforo_.
I fear if I remove all tables with The numeric prefix in front, that will delete The forum altogether.

Hi @sarawhitford,
Check The boards in wpForo > Boards admin page, if The boardid is not 0 Then you should do some database manipulations. Use phpMyAdmin plugin or The same tool in your hosting:
If you only have one board, remove all tables with numeric prefix on front of The _wpforo like wp_2_wpforo_
Edit The wp_wpforo_boards table and set The boardid = 0
Go to Dashboard > wpForo > Overview admin page, scroll down and click The [Delete all Caches] button. |

I had no problem migrating my forum from Asgaros to wpForo on a staging site. I got everything set up and ready to go, but when I pushed The changes from The staging site to The live site using WP Staging Pro, all of The Forum settings seem to have moved over except The forum structure itself. I cleared all caches. I tried repeating The push to The live site, but nothing is working. Please advise. Both The live site and The staging site are on The same domain.

How-to and Troubleshooting |

@wpforo-support
Firstly, thank you for your reply. I probably didn't explain what I wanted to say clearly enough.
Now, let's take it step by step.
I thought I could avoid The problem of The login being displayed in The URL if I purchased "wpForo - User Custom Field" add-on. With its help, I could add a "nickname" field to The wpWoro registration form. However, after reading The topics related to my question on this forum, I came to understand that this add-on would not solve The problem. This is because The "nickname" field in this add-on would make changes to The table $wpdb->usermeta. And Then The following would happen
It described The problem that makes it impossible to change The wpForo user nickname (URL identifier) in The WordPress panel. And, accordingly, adding The add-on's "nickname" field will not solve The problem. And clearing The cache won't help.
Now, I know that WordPress uses user_nicename to display URLs. I also know that if you don't specify user_nicename during registration, WordPress will set it equal to your login. But I was hoping that The add-on's “nickname” field would make changes to user_nicename. Alas, this is not true.
The question is precisely how to set The URL identifier during registration using The wpForo registration form, i.e., to set user_nicename.
You have written everything correctly here.
But There is no need for any WordPress plugins, as you say here There really is a need for a hook. There are some fairly trivial ways to solve this problem. It is possible to simply add a hook to The body that registers The user using The wpForo register form with The 'user_register' parameter and userdata 'user_nicename'. At The same time, add an additional "nickname" field to The registration form and add validation for its data so that There are no matches for 'user_nicename'.
Since I am not a coding specialist and my knowledge is limited to basic knowledge and understanding of The C language, and is also long forgotten, as I learned it in The distant past, I was interested in The question: where can I find a function that describes The registration hook using The vpFor registration wrapper? Because it would take a considerable amount of time to analyze your plugin and find it myself.
Since I am limited in time to solve this problem, I have decided to solve it as quickly as possible for myself - during registration, a random set of numbers is entered in 'user_nicename', and I have also added a "nickname" field to The registration form, which sets The user's nickname so that people can immediately claim it for Themselves. At The same time, The "nickname" must also be recorded in The 'display_name' field because your function.php file is set to display either 'display name' in The forum footer after registration. Of course, also possible simply remove The display of 'display_name' or replace it with The same 'user_nicename' from random numbers. After that, I plan to ask Them to go to Their profile and manually change The "URL identifier" field to The nickname They have chosen. Also, one can try working with The hook 'pre_user_nicename', which filters The 'user_nicename' before The user is created or updated, so that The modified value can be returned later. But I think that people who develop add-ons for WP understand this better than I do and know all The possible ways to implement it.
Of course, this is a very monkey solution, but it can be implemented with minimal knowledge and with a few dozen lines of code in less than an hour.
However, now after updating wpForo, I will have to add this to The code every time, which is inconvenient.
Here's The topic where a person writes that he has created a community of elderly people who are not very tech-savvy, and They mistakenly entered Their email addresses in The "Login" field, and now They are displayed in The URL.
Currently, emails, phone numbers, and simple character sets are used as logins for registration on various platforms, so it is not surprising that users may mistakenly enter Their email address in The "login" field.
Firstly, considering how data protection legislation has changed, forum owners could be liable to pay large fines for displaying email addresses in this way. As a result, people are moving to other platforms and other developments in order to build Their communities, and you, in turn, are losing potential customers.
Secondly, if I registered on a platform and saw that my email address or phone number was displayed in The address bar, I would never return to that site and would advise other users not to do so either. This, in turn, leads to a decrease in interest in wpForo, which, in turn again, reduces The number of your potential customers.
Just because WP considers displaying nicknames to be normal does not mean that Their policy is ideal. A known nickname is already 50% of what is needed for brute force.
Okay, even if you take all The necessary security measures, such as 2FA and others (which is The only way to avoid brute force attacks, as claimed by WP), and avoid The possibility of password guessing. Also, people usually set up The same logins for different sites, which again puts Them at risk of hacking, only on a other site (if that site has not taken The necessary security measures). And this again deters users.
Also, There is still The issue of data protection legislation.
Let's assume that I install all The necessary protections, but what should I do about sensitive user data becoming public? in fact, it is no longer just an addition, but a default requirement. Because сurrently, even The "wpForo - User Custom Field" does not allow you to avoid such situations for The reasons I have already outlined.
As a quick example, here are a few more topics where users write that They have encountered The problem of disclosing sensitive data.
You can also find many pages in The web where people write that The VP policy in this respect is not ideal and sometimes causes problems. indeed, most services today display The user's nickname in The URL, but it is not The same as The login and, moreover, does not display any sensitive data that may have been entered by mistake.
However, initially, The people who register with WP are those who will be developing The website, and They can change Their 'user_nacename' in The database before anyone visits Their profile. Forum users, however, will not have this option, so this issue falls to The forum owners. in fact, wpForo is an excellent tool for creating a community, and it is obvious that a lot of effort has been put into its development. However, The problem with The possibility of sensitive data disclosure deprives it of many advantages over its competitors and, in specific cases, even makes it to an extent unsuitable for use.
If this were an obsolete project, Then There would be no questions, but you support it, correct errors, refine it, and make other changes. So it's not entirely clear why you are disregarding issues related to data disclosure for such a considerable time, because They are really important. Especially since solving Them does not require a lot of time and effort.
After all, These are your potential customers who want to use your product but are facing obstacles due to legislation and other factors.
For The rest, you have a really great product.
The questions I asked at The beginning of this thread remain unanswered for now.
1.
So, I wish I were wrong and knew that this problem would somehow be solved, but as I understand it, you don't plan to change anything with The display of The login in The URL. However, in our reality, The login is displayed by default, despite The fact that technically The nickname is displayed There.
That's right?
2.
Where and how can I find The vpForo hook that is responsible for user registration and make changes to The vpForo registration form, as a result of which, when a user registers, The data They enter (for example, from The custom field "login" that I will add to The registration form or registration page wrapper) is recorded in The 'user_nicename' field of The $wpdb->users table?
Best regards!

Migrating Forums database to a new server

Hello
I'm after some advice of migrating to a new server.
I'm in The process of designing a new website to replace an existing one. Same domain name, just a fresh new site and new host. The forums are locked down to members only and on a paid subscription. I don't know how migrating to a new WordPress instance with a new host/new server will work. I've installed wpFORO on The new server and am manually setting up The same sections. I'm sure There is an easier way to do it but I have time and I'm happy to do it that way. The current forums are not overly busy but all going well we should get very busy after The migration to a new host.
I have The luxury of being able to start over again and manually setup our current paid members for access.
I really want to cover all options and wondered if There was an easy way to migrate The users and content of The current forums to The new?
Additionally I purchased The embeds addon earlier this year but after reverting to a site backup have lost The function.
I did email support but have not received any reply. I need to reinstall The addon on The current forums and new one once we move. I no longer have The zip file that I downloaded.
Any advice or tips are greatly appreciated. |

Actually, I wasn't clear on that, thanks for clarifying it for me.
So it sounds like all I would need to do is remove The older AddOns and Then download Them again and reinstall Them on The staging server. That is a lot more convenient than rebuilding The server every time, and as you said, The updates are not too frequent.
On The subject of updates, do you know when The next WPForo update with The promised Post Preview will be released? I want to purchase two more AddOns (Private Messages and Polls) but I don't want to invest any more in WPForo until I see a working Post Preview function. Robert had said it was The top priority for The next release but didn't provide a release date, and I'm constantly getting hounded by my members about The lack of Post Preview.
I'd just like to be able to give Them a better answer than "I don't know"!
Thanks for your help Sofy, have a great day! |

This must be something I have configured wrong but I am having a dickins of a time finding what it is. I have searched The FAQ with no results.
My installation seems to work ok. I can post in my configured forums. However even as The admin I can only reply without an attached file. If I attach a file I get an error like this: internal server Error The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact The server administrator at webmaster@triumphclub.org to inform Them of The time this error occurred, and The actions you performed just before this error.
More information about this error may be available in The server error log.
Additionally, a 500 internal server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle The request. The attachment actually uploads and is my media data. I just never can see my reply in The forum. If I reply with no attached file, The reply works fine.
I have looked in The debug area with no joy even after turning on debug in settings. My attachment limit is 10M, my PHP mem lim = 256M, max post size = 64M.
Any ideas where to look for misconfigured options or something else?

Hi @leeann . If I may suggest, clear your device's cookies (your phone and your tablet - They have hard caches, so you have to delete cookies so you see The changes.
Clearing cache is in 3 domain areas:
1) Clearing or debugging (on your server - Webhosting - while you are logged in to your wpForo Admin
2) When you press Control F5 twice, you are getting The latest version of The changes you may have made fresh from your Website
3) But meanwhile cookies are adding up on either your laptop or your mobile phone or your tablet. Each site we visit leaves cookies behind in "temporary internet files" so that next time we visit those same sites, we won't have to wait too long (average load time).
Best to also view your site, while testing, from an incognito window, or another browser too. 🙂
Hope this helps. Good luck and God bless you!

1. You didn't answer my question about The RSS. That was The most important.
I'm sorry but There is not way to disable RSS. We'll add an option in future releases.
2. Can users with The RSS address read new topics in user restricted forums that They do not have access to The usual way?
Non-permitted users and guests can not see The private topics and posts
2. It's not my server I tried to upload on, it's yours. My server and wpForo work excellent.
Our server disk space was full last days. That was The issue. Even at The moment we do some work on server and it may be full time to time within next 1-2 days. |
