Hi Robert,
It's never fun having to leave a negative review and this is one of few times I felt it was called for during all my years running Wordpress and having dealt with countless plugin authors. As I've mentioned in the review, once you commit to a forum software, you could be stuck with it as your community grows, and support is essential to make it work long term. I depend on support for the forum to function properly, and it hasn't.
Actually, this feeling of being met with arrogance here is nothing new. I've been a member here for probably two years, if not more, and I've always felt this way. Only now it has been worse since I've felt the need to ask for more support than usual. You made a big overhaul with the forum software, so that results in many questions and issues, naturally.
I often feel that I, as a customer, get met with a cold hand instead of trying to work together to find the issue. Support threads turn into a debate and competition who is wrong or right (many of which are set to private), what is the point of that? I've never experienced anything like that to be honest. I just want help and solve the issue, not hang around here and debate.
I dunno why you have to continuously throw it in my face that I use three cache solutions. As if it's unheard of to use site cache, database cache and Cloudflare. Are you not interested in focusing on making things work instead of complaining about my setup? I told you countless times, I have excluded wpforo in WP Rocket and Cloudflare, so what is the problem? Is it not in your best interest to make wpforo work with all setups, because all setups are unique, rather than complaining about it and turning it into a debate?
So what you are telling me is that, if you have WP rocket or use Cloudflare, wpforo is not for you? Be more upfront about that maybe before people commit to your software and buy countless plugins.
And regarding all the other support threads, I ask for various help like making 2.0 work, or theme issues, or customisation help, so what? Is that not your job to help with that?
I receive incredible support from most plugin authors, especially those where I am a paying customer (as I am here, having bought countless addons and customisation work). I don't know why you are so hostile towards me here. It really sucks.
Hi,
I can't speak for 100% sure for 1.9.x about this but in 2.0.6 what you mention doesn't exist. I tested it.
And i strongly believe it also doesn't exist in 1.9.x but i can't test.
Because in my forum, i have 12 private forums for a specific groups and i haven't seen or heard of a such an issue. If it existed, i would surely know about it after so many years with wpForo (5 years).
@robert,
Thank you for your comprehensive replay. It came in just as I was headed to bed. I will follow up in the morning and will be happy to speak highly of your product and team as I get to know both in the coming weeks.
I have been a software developer for over 55 years and know how difficult it is to build and maintain a complex product like WPRofo.
Seeing that you had posted the database schema warmed my heart. I have been using Gravity Forms and several related plugins for several years now and am acutely aware of how the developers of Gravity Forms did not seem to realize the impact that the architectural mistakes they made by trying to fit everything into the WP core tables would massively limit their growth possibilities.
This leads me to one question I have about WPForo. I have had difficulties getting the Forum page(s) working as DIVI pages. I made a little headway tonight, but it still feels rather fragile. Do you have any suggestions about using these two produces together?
And with that, I bid you good night.
Bob Jones
Robert,
I appreciate your assistance here. I also create and supply software solutions to my customer base - 27 years in business. So I understand a bit about providing updates and what to expect from customers and what to provide for them.
With auto-update turned on in WordPress, there is no advance warning of reviewing release notes, instructions or change logs. The update happens, and many things that were working are now not working. So, a tool that I expect to save me time and give my customers intuitive access to support forums is now costing me a great deal of time with the added benefit of many customers complaining to me about the forums not working as before. So, I am fighting fires on two fronts now.
In my opinion, this is poor release planning on your parts and I would hope that future releases take into account these types of things.
No question, your product is fantastic. Just saying that new releases should not cause more problems than they are meant to solve for your customers.
With that said, I assume that the screenshot-paste-into-post add-on is Advanced Attachments. Yes??? You know, we admins add and configure these things years ago, and then forget about them as long as everything runs well up until this sort of thing happens. If I go to wpForo >> Addons and look at this addon, it says "v2.0.4". If I click on details, I can't find anything that says it has a v3.0 available. So, can you please give a bit more instructions about what to update exactly and how to update it exactly? I am happy to do so, just need a bit more assistance.
Thanks. And I hope you take this criticism as it was meant, constructive and helpful. I appreciate when my customers tell me things even if I don't want to hear them.
Looking at this, it appears the old problem that's been going around for ages and has not been fixed, despite many people bringing it up.
Forums that are configured as, "not visible" to guests. The widget should ignore but instead, posts are being listed in recent posts widget and showing as 53-years ago.
Before this recent update, it would just list the post title and 53-years ago, now it's giving this new warning message.
As you can see from the attachment above, guest visible posts are showing without error.
Why do I always regret doing a wpforo update.
Well this is why i posted full details on how to replicate the issue, with captures. And apparently those are not "abandoned" posts but something else.
Let's hope this is fixed. Because if you do a search here with "52 years", see the results:
Not a good solution in 2022.
The good solution, a little bit on the technical side, is
1.
with
2. CIDRAM
Both WP plugins (CIDRAM is more like an interface) or a generic script.
This is what we use server-wide for 4 years now. Never had an issue. CIDRAM blocks all the "noise", spammers, bots, attacks, scrapers.
An other plugin could be Worldfence to replace both, but it is heavy and works with a cloud (meaning a lot of traffic).
Hi @kikismedia,
What update do you mean? The last update was about 8-9 months ago, and all updates were releasing after each 2-3 months. So why are you mentioning two years? If you mean the user following feature then it may take years or it may not be added at all. So this is not "update", this is a new feature.
And good news is that the user following feature has been added in the 2.0 major version. So just wait for the next major version release. I have no ETA for the stable version, but it'll not take more than a month. the beta version will be release a few weeks earlier.
When are you going to add the feature for thumbnails on homepage to show what's in the post or topic
This should have been implemented years ago, people have been asking for years
Its simple feature and it should be implemented and is on most forums why hasn't this been done yet
@chris I was more asking cause I don't like much the wall of text underneath the thread saying that the thread has been modified in 10 separate rows like this:
This topic was modified 3 years ago 16 times by Athlios
This topic was modified 2 years ago 38 times by Athlios
This topic was modified 1 year ago 23 times by Athlios
This topic was modified 10 months ago 6 times by Athlios
This topic was modified 7 months ago 5 times by Athlios
This topic was modified 6 months ago by Athlios
This topic was modified 5 months ago 5 times by Athlios
This topic was modified 4 months ago by Athlios
This topic was modified 3 months ago by Athlios
This topic was modified 3 weeks ago by Athlios
This topic was modified 2 weeks ago by Athlios
This topic was modified 1 week ago by Athlios
It would make more sense to have 1 row saying: This topic was modified x times by Athlios
Or two lines like that:
This topic was modified (last modification time) by Athlios
This topic was modified x times by Athlios
To cover both the last revision and the times in two lines instead of 200 lines.
I have a person who is able to comment on posts without being registered. Their comments go to moderation. When I accept them, they show up normally but their name is unclickable.
If I search the database, they do not exist. My guest access to forums is set correctly.
In researching further, I found the posts were created by user "0".
I searched user "0" and found a bunch of posts created years back, over a period of years, in other software (simplepress). These posts by "0" show up as "Anonymous", who joined "1 second ago".
The (current) guest's posts all go to moderation, though there is nothing hinky about them.
Screen shots follow. Please help!

Initially a few years back the widget behaved correctly, but I've had the same problem as you for ages. I reported it long ago and it was fixed in a subsequent update, then it got broken again in a further update and has remained.
I have a private section for members only, guests cannot see it, the permissions on the forum are correct!
When a post is made in the private section it appears on the recent posts widget list. This is fine for members who are logged in as they are supposed to see it. However if you are logged out and viewing as a guest the post with its short info, is listed in the recent posts widget, this should not be listed!
Another oddity is if I left like this eventually the private posts gets an odd time stamp. initially it will say x hours ago, where x is the time. However that eventually changes to 50 years ago!!!
Admittedly if a guest clicks on the post listed in the widget, they cannot read it and are directed to the login screen. However it still remains true that the post should not be listed at all in the widget if viewing as a guest, even the short info provided can be sensitive information.
As a result of this I have had to block the private area from the recent posts widget for the past 18months or more, just to ensure posts don't get listed. This is annoying but I've learned to live with it.
Hello, I present my small community of aquariums. Sorry for the English, I use the translator. The forum was created years ago with the Mybb CMS, it generated work for me to keep it updated and personalized, I am not a programmer, but it worked well. A couple of years ago I created the blog and the forum was forgotten and abandoned and I wanted to recover it, I did not want to start a new forum, I wanted to have the blog and the forum integrated in the same platform and customize it. I came across WPForo luckily. I moved everything and it worked very well, without problems. WPforo seems great to me, I managed to recover the abandoned community. A year ago I migrated everything and in that time I have dedicated myself to the blog only, I am starting to work little by little in the forum, there is no participation, but that does not discourage me at all, little by little it will be activated I am sure.
