As part of the design for the site I'm working on, there is need for a single login to allow a poster multiple profiles. So if I log in, I would want to be able to change my posting profile from "Profile A" to "Profile B" so that my next post would show from that profile (with a different avatar, a different signature, etc).
Is this a supported function (even if using upgrade is required)?

There is no built-in functionality for this. Each user is a separate WordPress user, and you cannot post from other profiles. If you are logged in as a current WordPress user, you can hire a developer and request them to create custom functionality for meeting your needs.
