Hi nightymike,

You have three options to translate wpForo:

  1. Use .POT file, it's located in /wpforo/wpf-languages/ directory.
  2. Navigate to Dashboard > Forums > Phrases and edit/translate all phrases. Please note, the key of the phrase must be in English, the value can be the translated version.
  3. Use attached XML file, and import it in Dashboard > Forums > Settings admin page.

Please read this doc for wpForo translation:

Please forget about this option. This doesn't have any relation to forum language. This is a XML translation function mode. You don't use that so don't check this option.

If you change theWP language in WordPress Settings (Dashboard > Settings > General),  wpForo will automatically loaded the po/mo translation file of that language.

If some phrase is not translated you should edit your language translation file of wpForo and complete the translation or use wpForo Front-end phrase system, just search for non translated phrase, edit and change the value. It'll be saved under the English option but it'll display your language.

Please read the doc and complete translation.

Use wpForo Phrase system:

ok thank

So it is not possible to use the forum for a website which has several languages because the fronted phrases offer only one option of translation?

If you have more languages you should use the native PO/MO translation files. It'll be used automatically. When you change the language it loads the according language PO file from /wpforo/wpf-languages/ folder like other plugins. Just use the PO/MO files and translate them using Loco Translator or PoEdit.

More info about PO/MO fie translation:
