Hey guys, I have seen this question asked a decent amount so I thought that I would give a quick tutorial on how I did it for my own site. This method allows you to have a "recent posts" button on your navigation like most forum software has these days. It will display the most recent posts (or topics if you wish) that have been made with a click of a button and hopefully increase activity on your site. Let's get started!
Â
First of all, we will be using the wpForo "Recent Posts" Widget. So make sure you have your wpForo updated and good to go.
Â
Next, we will be installing a plugin called "amr Shortcode Any Widget". You can find that here
After activating your new "amr" plugin, go to Appearance > Widgets. You will see a new widget sidebar option on the right side of the screen called "Widgets for Shortcodes". Simply drag your "wpForo Recent Posts" widget into this new box and customize to your liking. You will see a dialog underneath the options of your widget that says "To use as shortcode with id:"Â Â followed by a link. Copy that link.
Create a new page called "Recent Posts" and paste your new shortcode on the page.Â
Publish the page.
Â
Congrats, you did it! Finally, add the new Page to whichever menu you would like and you're good to go.
Â
I hope this helped!
Â
See my example here: http://haloisback.com/forum and click on "Recent Forum Posts" in the main Forum menu.
Hi HaloisBack.
Thank you for sharing this detailed instruction.
Is this still the recommended way to add the 'Recent Posts' button to our forums?

Hi Tony, the functionality has been added to do this within wpForo - check this post out:Â https://wpforo.com/community/wpforo-announcements/wpforo-1-4-2-is-released/#post-11812
Thank you SamHunter and Robert for the info, I really appreciate your help. I will be sure to keep an eye on the changelog 🙂
