Perhaps I am not understanding something but as the admin of the forums, am I not able to send a 'mass' email to all the members?
For example, I want to ask all members a question concerning their usage and would like to simply select all members and send an email..
I had never looked for this before today and just assumed it would be possible through the backend or something.
That would be good yes. I need a function to notify users when there is a new topic. Or be able to send out email to a specific user group for announcments.
Why a Forum plugin should send mass mail ? I don't get it.
If you need something like that, use a newsletter plugin. BUT be prepared to have a fast and strong WP system, because sending mass email will be a problem for most.
I think you just miss the point of a Forum in general.
AS the admin of a forum, there all kinds of reasons you might want to email the members.. perhaps your cleaning out inactive users..you can send an email explaining what is happening, maybe you want to ask a question about a new feature.
Also, in my case, a fairly new and small forum where I have not implemented an email capture system for newsletters, etc... the only email address I have are those in the users list.

Understood but that is NOT something related to a forum. When we want to do that with a Forum plugin, we create a Forum and in there people can post their opinions. Mass mail is something else, not forum related (with ANY forum script).
There are some good newsletter plugins for all that you need. As i said watch out because that mass mail can make your site banned from your hosting provider (most thing it is spam).

chuckle .. I know I can use other plugins to do this. For something, which to me at least makes sense, why install another plugin, to do something that could easily be accomplished within the existing one.
Not arguing..just saying that there are other points of view on how an admin might want to communicate with members.
