when users sign up using the wp-foro sign up page they get an error right away saying there is a critial error - looks like a WP issue but the actual sign up is successful.

Any ideas why this is happening ?

Please navigate to Dashboard > Forums > Tools > Debug > Errors & Issues admin page, let us know if you see any issues. Also, click on the Tables tab and use the [Solve Database Problems] button if you see that.
