Before I implement the Chat Addon, I wondered if there's email or other form of notification if someone sends you a chat invitation?

Hi NickF,

If you mean the wpForo Private message addon, yes it sends email notifacation when the user receive a private message. Also when user receive a private message, it will be noted at the top right pop-up of a forum page.
