Okay, I'm working on this but one other thing possibly related. I've noted when people sign up and I go into the wordpress user profile to ugrade them to a contributor for the wordpress side of things it won't let me because it says:
Your Nickname must be different than your login name. Please choose a different Nickname
Just tried to do the same (subscribe -> contributor) without a single problem (and back). So this is specific to your WP site. Some plugin probably.
Yes, possibly. I will have to go through the usual activation/deactivation process to find out which one. Thankfully it's rare I need to boost users to contributors and will be able to live with usernames and nicknames being different, or deactivating the suspect plugin while I make the user level change.
Just weird that those error messages were mentioning userid as well. But maybe that could be the php issue - which I think could have arisen when I was editing the wp nav menu file.
