When I share a post on social media, I'd like the "featured" image to be the video's thumbnail I posted.
Is there a way to do it?

This script is for setting a default image for all topics which don't have any images in posts to have some thumbnail in shared posts.
I'm sorry but wpForo doesn't have any option to automatically set the video thumbnail as the shared post thumbnail in shared posts.

Of course, I mean.. What if I change the script to search for the first video thumbnail and display a default image if there isnt't any?

Yes you can use that script to add current topic default image. So your script should find the URL and use that hook.
