Hi. I want to disable the top menu of the forum but the search form is placed there which will disappear as well. Is there any way the search form can be placed without the top menu? is there a shortcode i can use to place it where ever? If not, that would be a great implementation.

Yes, you can use the wpForo Search widget. It can be found in Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets admin page.

Great, but can i use a widget in a column using a page builder plugin like Visual Composer? Or are only widget for sidebar, header and footer areas? Usually, i'd have to use short codes to display certain things in the page column areas.
This depends on the Visual Composer plugin you're using. Some of these plugins have an option that allows you to display the Widgets where you want on the page content.
