I'd suggest reading wpForo documentation for forum configuration. wpForo is a large plugin and you should know base settings to get best experience and administrate your forum well.
For example, you should know that wpForo has three forum layouts, and the first layout called Extended Layout has options to collapse and expend recent topics on forums page and recent replies on topics page. The settings are located in Dashboard > Forums > Settings > Forum admin page. More information here:
