Hi!

This is my first contact with wpForo.  I used phpbb so far.

I want to run a German wpForo installation on an English Wordpress installation.  Reading some topics in this support forum I have the impression that this is not possible: wpForo uses the Wordpress language. That's all that I found.

Is there any way to force wpForo to use wpforo-de_DE.mo and wpforo-de_DE.po?

Cheers, Frank

Hi  FrankJ,

I'm sorry, but I don't follow you.  You'd need to have an English admin page and all pages on the frontend in German?  Or only wpForo on German and the rest of pages in English on the frontend?

Hi Sofy,

thanks for your reply.

Backend
I need an English WP backend. This is due to a rather complicated theme — I need all the original English expressions to get proper theme support.

Frontend
The frontend has to be in German language as my visitors are German.

The Problem
I could not manage to change wpForo to German language in the frontend. Any chance to do that with the language fildes (wpforo-de_DE.mo and wpforo-de_DE.po))

Cheers, Frank

Dear Frank,

The correct way to do it is using some multilanguage plugins. The plugins will allow having different languages in frontend and backend.

e.g. WPML plugin. Read support topic here:

https://wpml.org/forums/topic/display-website-frontend-in-another-language-but-backend-in/

If you want to quickly translate forum front-end phrases you should use wpForo built-in phrase system. More information you can find here:

Hi again,

my theme has multi-language support built in. That is for the theme only of course and has no effect on wpForo as far as i know.

So wpForo cannot be forced to use the German language files?  I mean: Most of the strings are translated in these files already. It is hard to understand that I cannot use them.

Cheers, Frank
