I think we may be a little different as we have been running an events business in The North West UK for a few years now. We decided to add a forum to our Wordpress site for SEO and engagement reasons. This plugin has turned out to be ideal for our purposes and very easy to set up.
Northern Wine School Forum has been going for a couple of weeks now.

Nice integration and coloring. I'd also suggest remove the "Forum" page title by disabling the "Show Forum Page Title" option in Dashboard > Forums > Settings > Features admin page.
