Also you can disable all avatars in Dashboard > Settings > Discussions admin page

As you can see here on wpForo Community the Recent Posts feature already exists. Please read the latest 1.4.2 version release changelog here:

This is not planned in near future releases. We may add this in a few months.

wpForo has Online users widget, you can use this instead...
