Avid fan of wpForo here - thank you so much for creating such a wonderful discussion platform!
I've been thinking about what features would fit our particular needs, and so thought I'd add some suggestions for future development:
- Ability to turn off user registration under wpForo - allowing user management to be controlled by either the native WordPress component, or third-party plugins like UltimateMember
- Individual user access - allow selection of individual users with varying levels of access to each forum/subforum, rather than via usergroups. To do this, we currently assign each user to their own usergroup, but this can get quite complex!
- Notification centre - where users can see and navigate to updates on logging in from one place (e.g. like the notifications dropdown on Facebook)
- Direct messaging - where users can send direct messages to other users, or to administrators
- Administrator subscription manager - where administrators can subscribe/unsubscribe users to forums, subforums and posts on their behalf. Combining this with the ability for users to control subscriptions via the front-end (forming more of an alert system than a notification system) would be perfect!
- Ability to subscribe to all topics under a subscribed forum automatically - allowing users to be notified of any addition to any topic under a forum they are interested in
- SMS integration - using third-party SMS APIs to send out subscription alerts via SMS (e.g. we use FrontlineSMS to send out texts)
That's all I've thought of so far, but thanks again for creating such a great plugin!

Yes you can. Navigate to Forums > Settings > Features admin page and use "Enable User Registration" option.

This is not planned in near future, this is something complicated and very rare needed. However we'll take this under consideration.

We're releasing wpForo Private Messages addon by end of this month.
