I'm thinking to install wpforo in a high traffic WP installation. I would like to know how wpForo handles massive email notifications sending, in case for example of a topic with 100 subscribers that becomes very popular for a few days.
wpForo sends all 100 emails to WP to handle ? All together ?
Any information on that ? Anyone with a high traffic forum could tell me also what happens ?

wpForo sends all emails to WordPress, then WordPress handles emails. wpForo desn't have own email sender functions, all are being sent through WordPress email sender functions.
As an example, wpForo Announcements forum has hundreds of subscribers, and it sends all emails without any issue. There are many solutions for mailing queue in hosting services and even as a plugin like this: https://wordpress.org/plugins/simple-email-queue/

I have found myself 2 plugins for emailing queue but they seem abandoned (like the one you posted).
I found this, very new, i have no idea if it is any good. Says to send async with WP emails.
