Hi,

As for as I can see, the search is limited to a string. And posts can be seen by tag.

Is there a way to limit the topics based on fields from the user profile?

There is no way to filter topics by user custom fields. You can search and filter members by user custom fields not topics. Topics can be filtered by topic custom fields if you have installed and setup those using the wpForo Topic Custom Fields addon: https://gvectors.com/product/wpforo-topic-custom-fields/
