Perhaps the question was placed in the wrong place, but
in this layout, I really like the presentation of Subforums on the main page, can I do the same in other layouts?

As far as I see you're not familiar with wpForo forum layouts. There are four different layouts and you can use whichever you use for the top parent forum, then the child forums and subforums will inherit the top forum layout.
