I followed this conversation, here How to display new post first in WpForo? – How-to and Troubleshooting – wpForo Support Forum and modified my functions.php file accordingly, works like a charm. BUT ( you knew a "but" was coming, did not you... 🙂 ) emails sent for new posts on the topic do not take this into account, so people are sent to page 5, for example, which has the very first messages, when the new post is in fact on page 1. What would be the best way to correct this ?
