I know this has to be something simple that I'm doing wrong...

I'm building a practice forum and trying to follow a tutorial that I found online. I figure that once I learn how, I can probably use a Q&A section like this on my site... you know the story.

Unfortunately, I cannot access my forum home page. Once I navigate away from it, I can never go back to it. I get the "Index / Community" screen. Google says that this means I've misnamed the page.

I'm seriously stumped here.

This seems like a hosting problem. You should NEVER NEVER see a directory of a site.

The .htaccess should have a "Options -Indexes" by default.

To help you more on this, if you want and can post a url.

Let me know what hosting service you use? Is this a localhost?

First please make sure you use permalinks in Dashboard > Settings > Permalinks admin page, it should be /%postname%/ or something else, but it should not be the ?p=1 type.

Then go to Dashboard > Forums > Settings > General Tab, change the Forum Base URL to /forums/ and click on the [Update options] button.

@robert Thank You! I made the changes, the first one had no effect, but changing the Forum Base seems to have cleared it up... I can't thank you enough. But, I can leave a glowing review on the plugin page, lol... although I doubt that will mean as much to you as your assistance here meant to all of us. Thanks again!

Do not forget to check if the indexing of a directory is fixed.

Point your browser to

https://www.yoursite.com/wp-content/

for example. You must get a refused or an empty page. If you get files and folders you are in trouble.

I'm pretty sure anyone installing your plugin will be instantly in deep love with it. Definitely the best forum plugin for Wordpress, by far. Not to mention that you all (the stuff) you are just lovely.
