Install an anti-spam plugin > https://wordpress.org/plugins/search/spam/
I use Cleantalk, for example
Spam should be blocked at REGISTRATION/LOGIN level.
Otherwise it is very hard.
Google Captcha 3 is a good start.

IP based protection doesn't work in 2024.
