Hi,

I'm really sorry to bother the support team, I've been looking everywhere on the internet for two days for a solution with no success, I'm not an expert on coding etc.

I've tried to install reCAPTCHA V2 on the new forum I built these past weeks with your plugin but it won't work, I've tried with all available versions of reCAPTCHA V2, I chose the WpForo plugin because out of the ones I tried it looked the best, you did a great job!

Adding a screenshot of what happens to me and to everyone I know: in Italy, UK, Switzerland etc. I asked friends from different countries to test it.

Except from Elementor Pro I have no other plugin that uses reCAPTCHA, I've already tried to remove the access from Elementor Pro, changed keys several times etc.

No success whatsoever, also, I'm running OceanWP with the core extension bundle.

I keep gettin this message, which my friends also reported, that reCAPTCHA is unable to reach the server for verification.

I followed the link in the settings/tools page of the WpForo plugin, I've added the domain and selected the checkbox V2 (not the invisible option), it automatically set the ease of verification to medium, I kept it as it was. Then I copied both keys with the dedicated tools, making sure that I pasted the secret & the site key in the correct forms. Finally I purged the cash both on my website and on Cloudflare. Should I try with V3?

To attain SSL I'm using Cloudflare, but the origin server is a non SSL Hostgator Server (it would be too expensive for me), don't know if that could be the problem.

Ultimately, is there any external trusted plug-in that I could test insted of just trying with the built-in tool? I wouldn't want to deactivate crucial plugins and take down my website, changing theme, loosing any customization I made this past month etc, I should probably look into a safe-free-backup plugin?

On reCAPTCHA V2 admin page I see that everything is working, I mean I see there are some green and blue bars, which is some form of feedback from the website/domain.

I just want this to work before I purchase the addons for WpForo, like private messages etc.

Pardon my mistakes both in reporting the issue & general grammar, english is not my first language.

A list of the plugins I'm using, maybe you know of some conflict:

  1. Akismet Anti-Spam
  2. Classic Editor
  3. Cloudflare
  4. Elementor
  5. Elementor Pro
  6. Facebook for WooCommerce
  7. Jetpack by WordPress.com
  8. MailChimp for WordPress
  9. Manage Notification E-mails
  10. Ocean Cookie Notice
  11. Ocean Elementor Widgets
  12. Ocean Extra
  13. Ocean Full Screen
  14. Ocean Full Screen
  15. Ocean Instagram
  16. Ocean Portfolio
  17. Ocean Pro Demos
  18. Ocean Sticky Header
  19. Ocean White Label
  20. Ocean Woo Popup
  21. Official Facebook Pixel
  22. Really Simple SSL
  23. WooCommerce
  24. WooCommerce Google Analytics Integration
  25. WooCommerce Stripe Gateway
  26. Wordfence Security
  27. wpForo

I tried to deactivate Akismet as well but nothing changed, it's the plugin I installed after WpForo, the very last one I installed was Manage Notification Email to prevent receiving emails for every user subscribing (these are the last 3 I installed).

Edit: almost forgot, everything is updated to the latest version.

Edit 2: I completely removed Cloudflare & Cloudflare server redirections, installed SSL on my domain, nothing has changed, keeps saying error in reaching the recaptcha server.

Edit 3: if I remove all recaptcha keys from the website and disable recaptcha in the tool settings, it still says "ERROR: please check the box to prove that you are not a robot"

But there is no checkbox whatsover displayed and as I stated no recaptcha key installed.

So basically now it's impossible to register on the forum, it was possible before I tried to install the captcha keys,

Hi @juste1911,

First of all, thank you for using wpForo.

Could you please leave a screenshot of the wpForo reCAPTCHA Settings from Dashboard > Forums > Tool > Antispam admin page?

Hi @juste1911,

First of all, thank you for using wpForo.

Could you please leave a screenshot of the wpForo reCAPTCHA Settings from Dashboard > Forums > Tool > Antispam admin page?

Made a screenshot of what you asked.

I just wish for people to be able to register at this point, it would be better for the reCAPTCHA feature to work, but I can live without it.

Probably I messed the codes of the forum adding and removing reCAPTCHA keys?

Now everything is set as in the screenshot, because I wanted to try to register an account without the CAPTCHA feature.

@juste1911,

The "ERROR: Please check the box to prove that you are not a robot." message is not the wpForo message. Please deactivate the plugins and check again:

  1. Wordfence Security
  2. Jetpack by WordPress.com
  3. Akismet Anti-Spam

Please delete all caches and press CTRL+F5 (twice) on the forum frontend before checking.

So following your suggestion @Sofy,

It didn't work, so I tried disabling all plugins and it started working, I slowly activated each plugin one after the other...

Apparently the OCEAN ELEMENTOR WIDGETS is the one to blame, and I have no idea why... If that is running the WPFORO plugin doesn't let you register.

With Ocean Elementor Widgets deactivated it works both with or without reCAPTCHA V2 checkbox, so maybe an addon theme plugin conflict? I'm really ignorant on that matter.

Finally I would like to ask, how come on your forum is sufficient to just check the reCAPTCHA checkbox to send in you registration and on my forum if I set reCAPTCHA to super easy for the user, it still asks to check the pictures of cars, mountains and hills? Is it possible to have it simplified like yours?

Thank you very much for your time and your help, best regards.

Hi @juste1911,

I'm sorry, but I don't familiar with this plugin. We've not checked it yet. It would be better to contact this plugin support and ask if they have any recommendations on this matter.

This generates by Google ReCaptcha side. wpForo doesn't have any relation to it.  We can't describe all the logic of this captcha, it's very complicated. Sometimes for some users are being asked for picture verification, this is a user-specific model, you can try it with other devices and other IP addresses and you'll see in most cases it doesn't ask for picture verification.
