Hi there,

We have 2 forum boards with users having the ability to edit their subscriptions settings to each one through their profile. One of the boards is working just fine... the other won't allow users to unsubscribe. The subscription managers buttons to select are visible, but once "update subscriptions" is clicked, the page refreshes but the boxes are reselected. Users are having this issue, but so am I as an admin.

One things I notice different for this board is the individual topics don't appear to select from (only the over arching subscription settings) could this be relative to the problem?

The attached photos show the difference. The board "Engagement" is able to be deselected and all topics are visible; the second photo shoes the board "Roundtable" where you can see the selected boxes that won't save deselected and no topics are visible.

Unfortunately I can't do that due to privacy policies and information that could be accessed (our company works with governmental agencies).

Is there any other way we can troubleshoot?

Please check for any console errors. You can do this by pressing F12 to open the developer tools, then, navigate to the console tab.

Additionally, navigate to Dashboard > Forums > tools > Debug Tab > [Errors & Issues] Sub Tab and check for any errors. If you find any, please let us know. Then go to wpForo > Tools > Database Tables Tab and click the [Repair] button if you see any issues.

@sofy Thanks for the suggestions. When I did this, I got the notice:

  1. Deprecated feature used
    1. Synchronous XMLHttpRequest on the main thread is deprecated because of its detrimental effects to the end user's experience

Otherwise, when I went to Debug Tab on the forum tools, there were no issues found.

I've already asked the developers about this issue. I'll update this topic once I get a response from them.

@briana-hamilton,
The issue with unsubscribe/subscription settings not working in wpForo and showing a deprecated synchronous XMLHttpRequest warning is likely due to a JavaScript conflict or outdated code usage. One reported cause is a conflict with an old or other jQuery version loaded on the site, which can break wpForo's AJAX functions such as subscription management. To resolve this, ensure that only the latest compatible jQuery version is loaded and no conflicting scripts interfere with wpForo's JavaScript. This was noted in a similar case where the error "$wpf.ajaxSetup is not a function" occurred and was fixed by resolving jQuery conflicts. Also, check your browser console for any deprecated synchronous XMLHttpRequest warnings and update or remove any custom scripts that use synchronous requests, as modern browsers discourage their use. If the problem persists, reviewing customizations or plugins that affect JavaScript loading might help.
