I have an existing forum site on running on Wordpress website. This whole site including the forum element and all user was cloned onto another domain. This new site is now live, but threads from the "Old" previous website now have been updated with new q & a's.

Can I migrate the "latest version" of that forum onto my new website - therefore capturing and overwriting the forum to show the latest post in threads etc..

And if so, how please. What's the best process to use, any plugins needed ?

Thanks in advance for any assistance..

Hi rippers2000,

Great question! This is definitely a common scenario when dealing with WordPress forum migrations. The good news is that you can absolutely migrate the updated forum content from your old site to capture all those new Q&As and threads. The key is using the right approach to ensure you're getting the latest version of everything.

Based on the migration best practices for WordPress forums, here's the recommended step-by-step process:

  1. Install your target forum plugin on the new site (keep your old plugin active for now on the source site)
  2. Access the Migration Tool — Go to your forum plugin's admin panel and look for Tools or Migration options
  3. Select your source plugin — Choose the forum plugin running on your old site as the source
  4. Map your categories/forums — Configure how old forum structures should map to your new site's organization
  5. Run the migration — Execute the migration process. This will pull all the latest threads, posts, and user data from the old site
  6. Verify everything — Check that threads, posts, user accounts, and all content have migrated correctly with the latest updates
  7. Deactivate the old plugin — Once you've confirmed everything looks good, you can safely deactivate the old forum plugin

Since you're migrating between two WordPress sites with the same forum setup, this should be a relatively straightforward process. The migration tools are specifically designed to handle these transfers and will capture all the recent updates and new Q&As that have been added to the old site. Just make sure you verify the content thoroughly before fully switching over to ensure nothing was missed in the transfer.

What forum plugin are you currently using on both sites? That would help me point you to more specific documentation if needed.

@wpforo-support

I'm using WP foro for the forum - is that what you mean by "What forum plugin are you currently using on both sites? That would help me point you to more specific documentation if needed."

Thanks,
